I WORK ACROSS THE DIGITAL AND PHYSICAL, ALIGNING USER HAPPINESS AND BUSINESS GOALS IN A BETTER EXPERIENCE FOR ALL.

I'm one of those people who's been creating things and coding since middle school. I took a brief detour through engineering school prior to finding my passion in the design world at Virginia Tech, and happily jumped headfirst into the world of user experience and digital design post-college.

I see myself solidly perched between a numbers-driven mind and a creative heart, and find absolute joy bringing together data and design in an experience that reflects the wants and needs of real users.

ROCKET SOFTWARE

user experience / information architecture / interaction design

When I started at Rocket, as the second UX hire in its 25 year history, the corporate website was struggling. It had recently been revamped to bring together many microsites from dozens of acquisitions together, and customers frequently complained about getting lost or not being able to find what they were looking for. I worked with teams from engineering, marketing, and customer experience to clarify the goals of the site, completely redesign the navigation, make sure content was written with the right personas in mind, convert PDF content to SEO-friendly HTML, create "hubs" for resources, trials and demos, and evangelize a user-centered approach.  As a result of this project, Rocket was able to increase leads, improve customer sentiment, and with the new responsive design, increase mobile engagement by 100%. See the live site.

Young Previvors

ux / wordpress /  social media

Young Previvors, under the direction of only myself and a select few women, pulled together a Facebook and Twitter campaign with distinct logos and branding in mere hours after losing their online hereditary cancer support group in January 2013. Months later, a website went up in, again, only about 36 hours after Angelina Jolie stunned the world with news of her BRCA1+ status and preventive mastectomy. YP wanted to tell the stories of real women around the world going through the same difficulties and have a website ready to point to as many of their 200+ members interviewed for local and national newspapers and television stations in the coming days. Content was queen, and we wanted to really focus on bringing stories front and center and connecting with site visitors across various stages of their BRCA journey.

Thesis

design research / industrial design / physical prototyping

A numberless scale that invites people in eating disorder recovery to meditate and lowers stress by creating an immersive experience with few ties to a traditional bathroom scale. Though only a concept, it's been brought up for discussion in university psychology courses as far away as Lehigh, Pennsylvania.

Burstworks

ux / wireframing / Balsamiq

A group project during Startup Institute Boston, creating a chrome extension and platform that allows employees to share links with various groups of co-workers.

TORKwear

design research / industrial design / fashion design

A stylish commercial fishing suit that protects users from hypothermia & the elements.  This was a semester-long group project during my undergraduate education, for which the only prompt was the word "Water".
